கல்லூரியின் வரலாறு
தென் தமிழகத்தில் தென்கோடியில் முக்கடல் சங்கமிக்கும் எழில்மிகு குமரி மாவட்டத்தில் அரசு கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரியின் உதயம் வைர வரிகளால் பொறிக்கப்படவேண்டியவை ஒரு மிகப்பெரும் வரலாற்று சாதனை. குமரி மாவட்ட ஏழை எளிய மாணாக்கரின் உயர்கல்வி வளர்ச்சியினை கருத்தில்கொண்டு மாண்புமிகு தமிழக முதல்வர் டாக்டர் ஜெ.ஜெயலலிதா அவர்கள் உயர்கல்வித்துறை மானிய கோரிக்கை விவாதத்தின்போது 2015 – 2016-ஆம் கல்வியாண்டில் இம்மாவட்டத்தில் அரசு கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரி தொடங்கப்படும் என்று அறிவித்தார். அவ்வறிவிப்பின்படி குமரிவாழ் மக்களின் நீண்டகால கனவு நனவாகும் வண்ணம் பல்வேறு தடைகற்களைக் கடந்து 30-05-2016 அன்று கல்லூரி துவங்கப்பட்டு ஆங்கிலம், பொருளியல், வணிகவியல் என்ற மூன்று இளங்கலைப் பாடப்பிரிவுகளுடன் நாகர்கோவில் வடசேரி நெசவாளர் தெருவில் உள்ள அரசு உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளியில் தற்காலிகமாக இயங்கி வந்தது. கல்லூரியின் நிரந்தரக் கட்டிடம் கட்டுவதற்காகத் தமிழக அரசு கோணம் அரசு தொழில்நுட்பக் கல்லூரி வளாகத்தினுள் 4 ஏக்கர் நிலத்தைத் தேர்வுசெய்தது. ஓராண்டில் நிரந்தரக் கட்டிடம் கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டு 05-09-2017 அன்று மாண்புமிகு தமிழக முதல்வர் எடப்பாடி கே. பழனிசாமி அவர்களால் திறந்துவைக்கப்பட்டது. 2017-2018 ஆம் கல்வியாண்டில் கணிதவியல் மற்றும் கணினி அறிவியல் ஆகிய
இரு இளம் அறிவியல் பாடப்பிரிவுகளும் துவங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. 2018-19 ஆம் கல்வியாண்டில் வரலாறு, இயற்பியல், புள்ளியியல், வணிக நிர்வாகவியல் ஆகிய நான்கு பாடப்பிரிவுகளும் புதிதாகத் துவங்கப்பட்டு தற்போது ஒன்பது பாடப்பிரிவுகளுடன் சிறப்புற இயங்கிவருகின்றது.
History of the college in English
It is a milestone and historically notable record that the Government of Tamil
Nadu established a Government Arts and Science College in Kanyakumari district. It is located in the heart of the town Nagercoil in the southernmost district of TamilNadu and is flanked by the coastal scenery. By concerning the welfare and betterment of the poor students, the former Chief Minister Dr.J.Jayalalitha who announced that a Government Arts and Science College would be started in Kanyakumari district during the discussion on Higher Education and Schemes was held at the Legislative Assembly in 2015-16. With reference to the Honorable Chief Minster Statement, to fulfil the greatest expectation and dream of the Kanyakumari district people, the college was opened on 30/05/2016 and it has been functioning successfully with three Undergraduate Programmes like English, Economics and Commerce at Government Higher Secondary School, Nesavalar Street, Vadasery, Nagercoil. With the special concern and efforts of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, four acres of land was identified at Konam Government Polytechnic College. For the better growth of the Government Arts and Science College, a new separate building with all facilities was opened by the honorable Chief Minister of TamilNadu, Mr.Edapadi K. Palaniswami on 05/09/2017. During the academic year 2017-18, two more Undergraduate Programmes like Computer science and Mathematics were inducted. Similarly during 2018-19 academic year, four more Undergraduate Programmes like History, Statistics, Physics and Business Administration were also introduced for the welfare of the students. Moreover the new college campus proves its steady walk and growth by running the nine Undergraduate Programmes very successfully.
